Christmas Markets
In Switzerland, Christmas markets transform cities and villages into magical winter havens. Picture yourself exploring Zurich’s charming Old Town, wandering through Basel’s medieval streets lined with festive stalls, or marveling at Montreux’s lakeside market with the Alps as your backdrop. From traditional Swiss treats to artisan crafts, each market is a celebration of holiday joy. With breathtaking scenery and cozy atmospheres, Switzerland promises a holiday unlike any other.

This is my tip for a highlight in Switzerland:
Christmas Markets — switzerland
Zurich Christmas Market
Zurich’s Christmas Market in the Old Town is a must-visit during the holiday season. The streets come alive with sparkling lights, festive music, and the tempting aroma of traditional Swiss treats. The highlight for me? The stunning Christmas tree at the market, decorated with over 5,000 Swarovski crystals!
For an even more memorable experience, I suggest taking a private walking tour through Zurich’s charming Old Town or stopping by one of the city’s famous chocolate shops to indulge in some handcrafted Swiss sweets. And don’t forget to check out the indoor Christmas Market at Zurich’s Main Train Station. It’s one of the biggest in Europe.

Basel Christmas Market
Basel’s Christmas Market is one of my absolute favorites. Set in the heart of the Old Town, it’s full of festive charm and warmth. I love browsing the beautifully decorated stalls featuring handcrafted ornaments and traditional Swiss woodwork. The cozy atmosphere, paired with the scent of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts, is simply magical.
I also recommend a stroll through Basel’s historic Old Town. You’ll explore the city’s medieval alleyways and visit the breathtaking Basel Minster.

Montreux Christmas Market
Montreux’s Christmas Market is unlike anything else, set against the panoramic backdrop of Lake Geneva and the majestic Alps. Strolling the market’s wooden chalets, filled with artisan crafts, handmade toys, and mouthwatering local specialties like Swiss cheeses and chocolates, is a highlight of my holiday season. The sparkling lights along the lakeside and the snowy peaks make the whole scene feel like a postcard come to life.
To make your trip even more unforgettable, I recommend a private boat cruise on Lake Geneva or a wine tasting in the nearby Lavaux vineyards, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
